We made it to the Hassan II mosque. Absolutely gorgeous! It’s obviously a huge building but the details carved/made into the walls, ceilings, pillars, etc have to be seen. The benefit of the accompanying museum is that they actually show how some of the elaborate designs were made. There’s even a portion of the ceiling that didn’t meet the King’s requirements and is in the museum. Since the height of the room is lower than that of the mosque, it provides a closer view of the details.
We ended up having lunch at Sqala which definitely had a nice ambiance. It was in an old fort but felt like we were in a garden where we were seated.
Accessibility-The mosque and our tour guide were great in terms of ensuring accessibility for all. Although I didn’t need it, they did have a golf cart that they use to take visitors across the court yard to make it easier for them. A couple of us didn’t think we could do the stairs down to the basement to see where ablutions take place so we were able to sit and actually enjoy being quiet in the mosque while waiting for others—which was quite enjoyable. Sqala is another place that has a flight of stairs without railings so find a buddy to provide a steady arm if that is a concern. Apparently there are also stairs to the restroom that may lack handrails but I cannot confirm that.
