ABOUT ME
I am the teacher and coordinator for my school district's planetarium. Students come and see me as part of a field trip to learn about the stars. Since I am located at the high school, I may see some of the older students several times throughout the year depending on their courses that overlap with the planetarium. You might say, the planetarium is out of this world!
I have over 30 years of experience in science education. In addition to the planetarium, I have taught science to almost every grade level K-12, been in various science leadership roles, and have trained well over 2,500 teachers over the years about best practices in science education. I have three masters (two in education and one in creative writing) and a doctorate in education. In my spare time, I am working on a young adult science fiction series and some family-friendly scripts.

Global Education goes beyond the just learning about flags, food, fun, flags, and fashion (5F's) of different cultures. It helps students develop a multicultural lens of the world around them. They begin to see themselves as agents of change to make the world a better place, not just observers.
This website is designed to introduce you to the basic ideas of Global Education, the competencies involved, and way to incorporate it into your own classroom. Becoming a Globally Competent teacher doesn't mean you throw away what you've been doing, it means that you find ways to show how what your teaching has connections to the wider world.
