This day was amazing! The two things that I enjoyed the most was 1) the visit to the Spanish school (loved that the kids were real kids and just being themselves). It was fascinating to hear how their school worked and how many languages the students spoke. One teacher shared how she was used to quiet students in her homeland who didn’t want to participate so she was shocked when she got to Morocco and everyone wanted to participate in class. Wow! How cool is that!!!
2) The other favorite was the cooking class at Roots. We all helped cook various salads, tangines, and a dessert. It was the first real time we could all relax a bit and enjoy being with each other. I think it was the best bonding experience (of course, my group’s tangine was the best. lol. (Although it was amazing…precooked version of it in image.)) We were out super late but because the evening was so pleasant, we didn’t mind.
Note to future TGCers- The days are long, but good. Bring comfy shoes. Even if it looks like you’ll not be doing too much, many events require a lot of walking (to/from bus since some streets are too narrow, tours all around campuses, and general standing for receptions.) Don’t try to be cute…be practical for footwear. (Or, if you have footwear that does both…let us all know.) :)
Also, Medinas (the old towns) are really cool but while on tours you will find there isn’t time to slow down and buy things. So, several people in the group took time to go another night to actually buy stuff.
Accessibility in Medina-The guide made sure we started at the top and worked our way downhill. However, there are lots of little steps along the way…around every 10-20 feet. Be prepared for that.
Roots was also great in that they ensured an elevator was available to bring those that needed it up to the roof. It was nice to know I wasn’t alone in having issues with steps.
